Issue:

You want to know how to transfer your settings from an older version of AutoCAD to a newer version.

Solution:

Use the AutoCAD migration utility

Autocad 2000 Upgrade The migration utility is installed with your AutoCAD software. It runs automatically the first time you start a new installation of AutoCAD. Run the migration utility from these Windows locations: Upgrade
Windows 10 and 8.1:
Start > AutoCAD 20xx > Migrate From a Previous Release
Windows 7 and XP:
Start > All Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD 20xx > Migrate Custom Settings > Migrate From a Previous Release
The migration utility migrates settings between two versions of the same AutoCAD product in the same language. For example, the utility:
  • Will migrate settings from the English version of AutoCAD 2019 to the English version of AutoCAD 2020.
  • Won't migrate settings from an English to a German version of AutoCAD.
  • Won't migrate settings from AutoCAD to AutoCAD LT, AutoCAD Architecture, or AutoCAD Mechanical.
Note: You may be able to use the AutoCAD CUI editor to migrate settings between different AutoCAD products or between different language versions of the same product. See the section on the CUI editor.

To migrate settings from one computer to another:

  1. Keep your previous version of AutoCAD installed on your old computer.
  2. Install the new version of AutoCAD in trial mode on your old computer.
  3. Use the migration utility to transfer settings from your old version of AutoCAD to your new version:
Windows 10 and 8.1:
Start > AutoCAD 20xx > Migrate From a Previous Release
Windows 7 and XP:
Start > All Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD 20xx > Migrate Custom Settings > Migrate From a Previous Release
  1. When the migration of settings is complete, export these settings from the new version of AutoCAD to a file:
Windows 10 and 8.1:
Start > AutoCAD 20xx > Export AutoCAD 20xx Settings
Windows 7 and XP:
Start > All Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD 20xx > Migrate Custom Settings > Export AutoCAD Settings
  1. Import the file to the new version of AutoCAD on your new computer:
Windows 10 and 8.1:
Start > AutoCAD 20xx > Import AutoCAD 20xx Settings
Windows 7 and XP:
Start > All Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD 20xx > Migrate Custom Settings > Import AutoCAD Settings
Note: In some cases, you may not be able to install the new version of AutoCAD in trial mode on your old computer. For example, your old computer may not meet the hardware requirements of the new version of AutoCAD. In these cases, follow this alternative procedure:
  1. On your old computer, export the settings from your old version of AutoCAD.
  2. Copy the resultant export file to your new computer.
  3. Install the old version of AutoCAD in trial mode on your new computer.
  4. Install the new version of AutoCAD in normal licensed mode on your new computer.
  5. Import the settings export file from step 2 to the old version of AutoCAD on your new computer.
  6. Migrate the settings from the old version of AutoCAD to the new version on your new computer.

Use the AutoCAD CUI editor

You can use the AutoCAD CUI editor to migrate settings between different language versions of AutoCAD or between different AutoCAD products.
  1. Locate the CUIx file for the version of AutoCAD from which you want to transfer settings.
  2. In the new receiving version of AutoCAD, enter CUI on the command line and click the Transfer tab.
  3. Load the CUIx file from step 1 into the right pane of the window.
  4. Move workspace and other settings to the left pane of the window.
Note: By default, CUIx files install in this location:

C:Users<user>AppDataRoamingAutodeskAutoCAD 20xxRxx.x<language>Support
